OBJECTIVES

  • To develop a state of the art facility for Quality control and Scientific validation of traditional claims of Unani medicines using modern scientific tools.
  • To develop patentable AYUSH based formulations using synergy based approach and re-design of traditional Unani sugar based formulations into sugar free dosage forms.
  • To undertake stability testing, pharmacokinetic analysis, metabolomic profiling, network pharmacology based research and clinical evaluation of Unani medicines.
  • To carry out training and competency development of Unani/AYUSH professionals in the area of advanced research and innovation in the field of Unani medicine.
  • To publish, generate IPR and create a web based open source repository of scientific data as per the global standards.

OBJECTIVE WISE ANNUAL DELIVERABLES

A.INFRASTRUCTURE COMPONENT

OBJECTIVE 1: To develop a state of the art facility for Quality control, scientific validation of traditional claims of Unani medicines using modern scientific tools.

Construction and renovation work including Furniture work

First Year

  • Development of Extraction / Sample Preparation Unit.    Completed
  • Development of Cell Culture and Molecular Pharmacology Facility.    Work in progress
  • Development of NABL Accredited Advanced Testing Laboratory for AYUSH Medicine.    Work in progress
  • Development of Seminar hall and Conference room.    Completed

Second Year

  • Development of In vivo Experiment Unit.    Work in progress
  • Development of Formulation Development Unit.    Completed

Purchase of Modern Analytical Equipment’s

Second Year

  • Purchase of HPTLC, HPLC & LCMS, Multi-Mode Reader, Inverted Microscope, Incubator, Minus eighty and other cell culture accessories.

Third Year

  • Purchase of ICP-MS and accessories.

B.RESEARCH COMPONENT

OBJECTIVE 2: To develop patentable AYUSH based formulations using synergy based approach and redesign of traditional Unani sugar based formulations into sugar free dosage forms.

Development of patentable AYUSH based formulations using synergy based approach for management of chronic kidney disease (CKD)

First Year

  • Selection of best active extracts (aqueous / hydroalcoholic) of Unani medicinal plants used in different formulations for kidney disorders on the basis of in vitro activity .    Completed

Second Year

  • Development of synergy based combinations of best active extracts using isobolographic model.    Completed

Third Year

  • Evaluation of in-vivo biological activity and toxicity testing of the synergistic combination.

Redesign of traditional Unani sugar based formulations into sugar free dosage forms as per the mandate of CCRUM

First Year

  • Development of sugar free formulations of two best active sugar based formulations used for kidney disorders.    Completed

Second Year

  • Comparative quality control and pharmacological evaluation of traditional and sugar free formulation for CKD.    Completed

OBJECTIVE 3: To undertake stability testing, Pharmacokinetic analysis, metabolomic profiling, network pharmacology based research and clinical evaluation of Unani medicines.

Second Year

  • To perform stability testing and shelf life studies on Unani formulations.    Completed
  • To perform LCMS and GCMS based metabolomic studies for identification of total metabolites present in the formulation.    Work in progress

Third Year

  • To carry out Pharmacokinetic evaluation of Unani formulations.
  • To perform clinical studies on the AYUSH formulations as developed/ selected in above experiments (Two sugar free and one synergy based combination formulations).

C.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMPONENT

OBJECTIVE 4: To carry out training and competency development of AYUSH professionals in the area advanced research and innovation in the field of Unani medicine.

First Year

  • To organise 3 professional hands on training and workshops, one national / international Seminar.    Completed

Second Year

  • To organise 3 professional hands on training and workshops, one national / international Seminar.

Third Year

  • To organise 4 professional hands on training and workshops, one international Conference.
  • To provide opportunity to AYUSH professionals for research training and testing facility.

D.PUBLICATIONS, IPR AND OUTREACH COMPONENT

OBJECTIVE 5: To publish, generate IPR and create a web based open source repository of scientific data as per global standards.

First Year

  • 5 publications in good impact factor Journal + 2 Monographs of medicinal plants.    Completed

Second Year

  • 7 publications in good impact factor Journal + 3 Monographs of medicinal plants

Third Year

  • 8 publications in good impact factor Journal + 5 Monographs/ SOPs of formulations / Medicinal plants including developed formulations.
  • To generate at least 02 patents from the research work.
  • To create an exclusive web portal for open data sharing with academic and research institutions as per global standards.
